Summit!

The guide Rolo called to say that the team has reached the summit (22,834 ft) today, the highest point in the Andes range, part of the Seven Summits and the highest mountain in the World outside the Himalayas. Congratulations!

After a great effort the group is very happy and going down to Plaza de Mulas, from where they will hike to the trailhead.

Hoping for the Summit

Today the team reach the High Camp, at almost 6.000 m! They are doing a great job and looking forward to reach the summit tomorrow although it will be a windy day.

Camp II

The group reached Camp II (17,700 ft) today. They are working hard and trying to gain altitude while keeping the energy. They are now resting and tomorrow will see if they can move forward to the High Camp, at almost 6,000m (19,600 ft).

Merry Christmas!

The team successfully carry the load to camp 1(16,000 ft) yesterday and today they are going to move to that camp. Rolo, the guide called to say that everybody is fine, working hard and wishing Merry Christmas to their families.

Getting ready to keep going up

The team is still resting at base camp and preparing to start the carrying-acclimatization process where they will be carrying to a higher camp and then moving to that camp.

Everyone is doing great, according to the forecast the weather will be good in the next days. Attached is a picture of Plaza Argentina from a previous expedition

Base Camp

After hiking the Vacas Valley and the Relinchos Valley, then team arrived today to Plaza Argentina (14200 ft). Everyone is doing well, they are going to rest and get ready for the carry to camp 1. Attached is a picture of the view from the trail

Starting an adventure

After a tasty steak dinner and Mendocinian Malbec last night, our third group of this season is in the lodge at Penitentes, where they are going to spend the night, waiting to start their 3-day hike to base camp tomorrow.

The team is led by experienced guide Rolo Abaca, an excellent guide from Mendoza, who has worked many years in the mountains.

I will post more information every time we talk to them by the satellite telephone.
