Going down

After a very windy day near the summit the team decided to come down to Base camp, where they are recovering. Unfortunately, the wind didn’t allow them to reach the summit but they are very happy and preparing to return to Mendoza tomorrow were they will be having a proper celebration dinner.

Surely this is an experience they will treasure the rest of their life.

Waiting to reach the summit

The team made it safely to to High Camp (19,700ft) today. They are doing a great job, enyoing the climb and looking forward to reaching the summit. They will have to wait until Sunday to make a summit attempt. For tommorrow the forecast says it will be very windy so they are staying in high camp resting and eating a delicious meal made by our guide Eliana.

Resting in camp 1

After carrying the load to camp 2 the team will rest one more day in camp 1 and then continue the journey. They are fine and very exicted trying to gain altitude while keeping the energy

Camp I

Both teams arrive today at camp 1. Everybody is fine and doing a great job! They will spend the day resting and preparing the loads to carry tomorrow to camp 2. The weather for the next days is favorable so they hope to continue going up without problems. We will keep you posted.

Base Camp Sweet Base Camp

Lead guide Eliana Camano, called today from her sat phone, to deliver the good news that the group arrived perfectly well to base camp Plaza Argentina (13800 ft). There are very few people at BC and they have the mountain almost to themselves..a Luxury on Aconcagua this days

They will enjoy an excellent dinner tonight, made by chef and base camp manager . Tomorrow will be a rest day for them. Then begins the process of carrying loads to altitude, which is good to acclimatize and to go light in the final push. I am attaching a picture of the approach to Plaza Argentina from a previous expedition. More news as they come!

Great Conditions!

GREAT CONDITIONS!

A great season ahead in great conditions due to the generous winter we had this passed winter in the Andes.
Our first 2 groups departed yesterday from Mendoza!

Our first group led By Experienced Argentinean Mountain Guide, Eliana Camano and Assitant Guides Drew Doschstader from Canada and Philip de-Beger from the U.K. plus 9 clients.

A new season of Aconcagua has began and the Groups are on the way to Penitentes, a small ski resort 6 km from the trailhead (8858 feet). The team will start walking tomorrow from Punta de Vacas.

Lots of snow still remain on the mountain which made it challenging to install Base Camp. Snow up on the mountain can be beneficial for the teams since it is generally easier to walk on snow than on some of the reputable long scree slopes of Aconcagua.

There goes a picture of the team at the Hyatt, just before they left Mendoza.

We will be uploading news and pictures every time they call us from the sat phone.
